Fleeton Virginia

Fleeton, Virginia Welcome Sign (click to enlarge)
Many of my images can be found at www.dennismook.com.  Please pay it a visit.  I add new images regularly. I've just added a gallery featuring all M4/3 images.  Soon, I will be adding a gallery of all Fuji X-Trans images. Thank you.

Just by the nature of this welcoming sign, as well as its surroundings, doesn't Fleeton appear as though it would be a wonderful place to live?

Fleeton is a very small community right on the tip of a small peninsula in the Northern Neck of Virginia (Northumberland County) which is located on the western shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay. Specifically, it sits at the confluence of the Great Wicomico River and the Chesapeake Bay.

There are only a few narrow streets, some well-kept and stately homes, areas from which to launch boats and a few other buildings.  I didn't see any commercial establishments, although I didn't cover the entire town.  There may be.  Luckily, Fleeton is not far from Kilmarnock so residents can easily get necessities.

The future may not be bright for Fleeton as I found a 2005 image of a previous sign that showed the town had a population of 89 residents and 18 dogs. Evidently, the blue crabs have moved in and taken the place of some of the human residents!

Fleeton is a gorgeous and serene little place.  I hope it doesn't change much and stays hidden away from development.

Thanks for looking.  Enjoy!
