Want to win at photography? The first thing to do is to not take yourself too seriously. It is not life and death. Also, don't obsess over gear. Its all good! Don't try to be someone you are not. Don't try to be something you are not. Be yourself and be happy with your work.
Go out and have fun with your photography. When you go out and photograph make sure you enjoy what your are doing and make it an enjoyable time. If you plan on going out with your friends who have an interest in photography, enjoy their companionship and share the experience as much as taking photographs. It is not about being in a competition with them. Its about a shared experience. Making great memories together.
Make the images you want to make. Be the photographer you are, not who someone else may want you to be or someone else you think you want to be.
Do your best. You won't be happy if you don't try your hardest to make good images. If you are doing your best, you should see continuous improvement over time. That should make you feel better about our photography. Not doing your best will cause you to have second thoughts about your capabilities and your work.
Again, have fun and enjoy your photography, your fellow photographers and your times out together looking for images. You'll feel good about yourself and good about your images. Even if you don't bring any great images back, you still have the experience.
And...Oh! Guess what? You win!
Thanks for looking. Enjoy!
