Tally's Restaurant on Historic Route 66 in Tulsa, Oklahoma (click to enlarge) |
Today was a fine day. Just a peach of a day in many ways.
We arose about 6 as usual. I parted the curtains in the hotel room and the sky was clear blue. After breakfast, we headed for the car to find the morning very cool, crisp and dry. No rain. Low humidity. My kind of day!
We said goodbye to Arkansas. We wanted to head up through the Ozarks, but the only color we could see was green. Too early for fall foliage. So, we headed into Oklahoma and up to Tulsa to pick up Route 66.
About noon, we reached Route 66 and had a wonderful lunch at Tally's Restaurant, which has been a mainstay of the Mother Road in Tulsa for many years. In fact, it was a delicious lunch. The food was good, the wait staff hustled like nobody's business and the atmosphere was retro. Good time!
We headed west on Route 66 toward downtown Tulsa, then south and west of town, going through small towns while staying on the old historic highway.
Just past Supulpa, we found an old iron truss bridge on the original portion of the road. Not many iron truss bridges still around, especially one with a red brick deck.

We then headed west to Yukon to spend the night. We chose a hotel in a western suburb as we wanted to drive back into the city to eat dinner at the Cattleman's Cafe in the Stockyards District. And, what a good choice that was. If you are a carnivore, and like steak, I can highly recommend this historic restaurant that has been serving up steak for over 100 years.
Tomorrow, we will be primarily on Route 66, stopping in the small towns and seeing the sights.
So far, carrying the big Nikon full frame gear has not been a chore. But, I do miss that EVF with the built-in histogram. More on the camera later.
Thanks for looking. Enjoy!
