Could Sasquatch Live in These Woods? (click to enlarge) |
Now, the real reason I am posting this image is to show off the fantastic dynamic range of the Nikon D800E. These woods caught my eye because of the large number of downed trees littering the forest floor, accompanied by the moss covered forest floor. There is a tremendous range of tones from the direct sunlight on the light yellow/green ferns as well as the conifer, to the almost total blackness deep back into the trees. In the past, I would have used at least three, if not five images to blend together to get this kind of dynamic range and detail. But, this was just a single exposure. The sensor in the D800E is extraordinary to be able to capture this range of tones! There is plenty of detail in the pine tree branches and the ferns as well as the deep dark trees in the back.
Look at the extreme crop below. When looking at it on a large monitor, I can easily see the bark detail of the darkest trees in the background. Amazing!

If you are not taking advantage of the benefits of the digital technology available in today's camera, you are really missing the potential to create extraordinary images.
By the way, there is credible compelling evidence that Sasquatch are real!
Thanks for looking.
