Mt. Rainier from the East |
We drove south and west, traveling on Route 410 on the northeast, east and southest sides of Mt. Rainier. The mountain was spectacular in the early summer light. The snow encapsulated the top of the mountain and the sky was a crystal blue. I made several images of the mountain from several vantage points as well as Clear Creek Falls, which was flowing with full force.
Lunch was in Yakima and we traveled I-82/I-84 south and east leaving Washington and then crossing eastern Oregon, finally stopping for the night in Ontario, Oregon. It was a really nice drive. The topography was spectacular, the day was sunny and warm and the traffic was moderate at worst.
At dinner, we happened to meet three guys, all friends for many years, who were bicyclists on the way to do some heavy duty riding in the red rock country of Utah. They invited us to eat with them and we had a really nice dinner with excellent conversation with our new friends. Thanks to Dennis, Mike and Skip. We wish you safe travels and great times together.
Tomorrow, we will visit Craters of the Moon and try to make it as far as Salt Lake City. Being the start of a holiday weekend, we will have to strategically plan finding a place that has plenty of h
