Happy New Year! My Photographic New Year's Resolutions

First Dawn of the New Millennium, Messick Point, Poquoson, Virginia
I drove over to Messick Point before dawn to record the first dawn of 2001 and this is what I found.
Leica M6, 35mm Summicron Asph., Kodak color negative film scanned
As is the tradition here in the United States, I thought I would put forward my thoughts for what I plan to resolve for 2014.

1) first, to resolve to be thankful for the past 12 months and do everything I can to make 2014 as good or better.  I have been fortunate to have been able to drive the entirety of Route 66, take the train across country, photograph the Amish and countryside in eastern PA, photograph the Oregon and northern California coast as well as numerous other photographic journeys.  I have had the opportunity to make some wonderful images in 2013 and will make every effort to do so in 2014.

2) resolve to freely share my photographic knowledge with those who may want it so they can derive as much pleasure from photography as I have. I have spent over 43 years learning and photographing.  I continue to learn every day.  Photography has been the one constant throughout my entire adult life.  I love teaching, sharing and helping others who share my interest.  If anyone who is reading this has any questions or assistance with his or her photography, I am more than willing to become your mentor, teacher, or helper,

3) resolve to get out more often and make images, specifically, to identify the kinds of images I want to make and then go to the places I can find those images.  Additionally, pick up and get back into some personal projects I have not yet finished,

4) resolve to continue to learn and improve to make the best and most meaningful images of which I am capable,

5) resolve to print, matte and frame more of my images.  It is a shame that we don't display our images more than we do.  I'm as guilty as most in that most of my images only get displayed on a computer screen.  Some just deserve more than that.  Additionally, I resolve to create a few photographic books of my travels over the past few years.  Making memories is as much importance as capturing fine images, and

5) resolve to continue this blog providing useful information for fellow photographers.  I enjoy doing so.

I sincerely hope 2014 is your best photographic year ever and hope, if possible, we have a chance to meet, talk photography and make images together.

Thanks for looking.  Enjoy!
