This morning, the first order of business was to have maintenance done on the car. As I mentioned yesterday, it is a mistake to neglect your vehicle. We had the oil changed and asked about a tire rotation as well as checking fluids, etc. All is well and ready for more travel. The last thing you want to do is break down in some really out of the way place.
Again, today, was primarily a travel day. No photographs were taken today, so I included one from yesterday. Before leaving early this afternoon, we had a wonderful lunch with Vance's relatives at a Tex-Mex restaurant in Austin. It seems everywhere we go, we have just wonderful food. Vance's son picked out this restaurant and my hat is off to him. Frankly, with the experience we had with traffic and gridlock, I was glad to say goodbye to Austin.
Our plans were to drive from Austin to Natchitoches, Louisiana. That didn't quite work out as we could not easily find a room at one of our usual hotels. There must be something that is going on this weekend. We then decided to drive south to Alexandria, Louisiana and found a very nice, but inexpensive hotel. We have confirmed that you don't have to spend a lot of money to get a very nice place, with free breakfast, to sleep.
Also we found a terrific seafood restaurant by the name of Bistro on the Bayou. I had a very nice dinner of shrimp and grits. The restaurant is on the grounds of an old military base which has been converted for civilian use. The community has done a great job in converting the old Air Force base. Back to the restaurant--the atmosphere was very pleasant, the wait staff was excellent and the food was the same. Another good find. Highly recommended.
After dinner, we checked into the hotel and are making plans for the next two days. We plan on driving to Natchez, Mississippi tomorrow to start the journey up the Natchez Trace. I'm looking forward to the possibilities I will find there.
Travel Tip: As a break from traveling, exploring, sleeping, eating and moving almost everyday, take a break and stay in one place for a couple of days. Sometimes the constant travel can take an emotional and physical toll on a body. Rest, relaxation and catching up with emails, internet blogs, news, etc. is important to some. Also, if you have friends or relatives along your route, it is a wonderful change to visit them, enjoy the fellowship, share your experiences, etc. These small, but important travel breaks can make a huge difference in how tired you feel and your overall enjoyment of your trip. They can make the difference from travel stress and a better overall experience. Enjoy!
Thanks for looking.
