We left El Paso this morning and drove about 520 miles to San Antonio. Today was a driving day with no sightseeing and no visiting. Of course, there was nothing to see and nothing to visit.
The only thing better about driving I-10 in west Texas than driving I-10 in Arizona or New Mexico is the speed limit is 80 rather than 75. We can get through this God forsaken land somewhat faster. By the way, I have never seen a speed limit of 80 mph before. But if any road is conducive to 80 mph, this is the one.
Our one bright spot in the day was lunch at Mi Casita Restaurant in Ft. Stockton, Texas. I can highly recommend that, when you see the orange building on the north side of Business Route 10, stop and have a great lunch. Abby Rivas was our server and she was efficient, polite, competent and smiled with enjoyment of her work. She actually addressed us as sirs. Very unusual to find someone as polite as Abby was. On the wall were certificates certifying Mi Casita was the best restaurant in the county and Ms. Rivas was the best server. We stumbled upon this restaurant, decided to go in, and are glad we did.
We rolled into San Antonio this evening and checked in to our hotel. We are having a quiet evening and will spend part of the day in San Antonio tomorrow before driving to Austin.
Continuation of yesterday's travel tip: Fly from Tucson to San Antonio. There is no reason to drive except to have a wonderful lunch at Mi Casita.
Sorry there is nothing more exciting than us just driving today. Enjoy!
Thanks for looking.
