TGART Day 2; Newport News, Virginia to Ann Arbor, Michigan

www.dennismook.com

We left the house right on time this morning at 0530 hours.  We are officially off on our excellent adventure!

The first stop of the day was the nearest Dunkin' Donuts for 2 large cups of coffee.  After all, fuel for the body is as important as fuel for the mind.  We proceeded west on Interstate 64 with a 2 hour diversion to Scottsville, Virginia to visit our good friends Frank and Ellen Sherwood.

In Scottsville, we had a wonderful breakfast at the James River Inn.  We had some good conversations and enjoyed the fellowship as well as the food.  About 10:30, we were off toward Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The first adventure of the day was to find I-64 was closed west of Charlottesville.  After sitting in traffic for about 20 minutes without movement, we decided to get off at the nearby exit and work our way through the countryside until we could get back on past the construction area.

In West Virginia, the weather turned bad and we had showers mixed with heavy downpours.  Not fun.  The rain continued through much of Ohio but cleared just before we reached Michigan.

As delicious as breakfast was, our lunch was the opposite.  We ate lunch at the Biscuit House in Sissonville.

The temperatures we experienced today ranged from 81 F in West Virginia before the front moved through to 39 F in Northern Ohio after the front moved through,  quite a range.

We finally rolled up at Vance's home in Ann Arbor at 2155 hours.  We have settled in for the night and I am looking forward to a good night's sleep.  Today, we drove 817 miles and crossed Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and into Michigan.  Too far for one day.

We are looking forward to an early start on our way to Chicago to find the beginning of Route 66.

The adventure continues!  Enjoy!

Thanks for looking.
