Share & Tell

Bull Bison, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming.
If you join me in this blog journey, my current plans are to comment on two general topics.  The main topic will be photography, but I reserve the right to comment about living and life in general, with a few spicy tidbits occasionally thrown out to generate thought and conversation.  But, no matter what I write, my intention is to never impose my thoughts or opinions on you, my reader.  That is not my job or purpose.  It is up to you to have formed your own opinions about life based upon your upbringing, education and experience.  Opinions are neither right nor wrong, just opinions.

I truly love everything about photography.  I will be writing about photography extensively, but I won't be telling you what you should do or not do.  I won't be telling you to adopt goals, adopt projects, get this camera or that camera, avoid this lens, etc.  I will be writing about my journey in photography, my successes, failures and experiences.  My goal is to share my knowledge freely and answer your questions.  I feel a very strong obligation to do so as pay forward to those who helped me along my way in the past.  I think we all should do that with our knowledge and experiences, no matter what they are.  There is a place for comment at the bottom of the page and if you send me a question, I can answer it publically or privately, but I prefer publically as others may have the same question.  If you prefer, I will not post your comment or mention your name as I always respect one's privacy.  Feel free to ask and I will freely give.

Fishing Boats, Mayport, Florida.
For the past 44 years I have intensely studied photography in about everyway possible and tried out almost every type of photography from crime scene (I used to be a forensic police detective in my younger days, worked and photographed over 100 death investigations--another story/another time) to aerial to macro to landscape to documentary to portrait to infrared/ultraviolet to surveillance to wildlife and on and on and on.  As a photographer I much admire, Rick Sammon, often says, "my specialty is not specializing."  I'm a generalist and have studied all types of photography to try to learn, understand and at least become competent in all of them.  For the most part, I have succeeded.  At least in my opinion.  I have also taught photography and absolutely love teaching it.  I have enough thorough understanding to break the various concepts down so you can easily understand.  On the rare occasion that I cannot instantly answer a question, I will get the answer as then I learn also.

Additionally, I've been working with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Photoshop Lightroom for the past several years and have gotten "competent" in my photographic editing abilities.  I certainly can't do a lot of what the experts do, but I can navigate my way around to accomplish what needs to be fixed in an image to maximize my interpretation as art.  So, I may be able to help you there--maybe!

I truly hope you do visit often as I can be a great resource to you in improving your photography of your family, vacation, times of your life and maybe, every once in a while, give you something to think about.

Thanks for visiting and please check out my photography website at www.dennismook.com as I think you will find some very interesting photographs.  Enjoy!
