This morning I was on my way home after doctor's appointment. As I passed by a local community flower garden, I spontaneously decided to stop and see what was blooming. I'm glad I did.
When I left the house for the doctor's office, I had grabbed my small Fujifilm X-E5 kit which contains the 16-50mm f/2.8-4.8 lens, the 14mm f/2.8 lens and the TTArtisans 75mm f/2 lens. I took the kit just in case I encountered anything worth photographing. I almost never leave the house with a camera of some sort.
The past three days have been full of rain and thunderstorms, but they seemed to have largely subsided this morning.
The garden is outdoors. About an acre. It was heavily overcast and in-between the remaining sporadic rain showers. I've been cooped up indoors most of that time. It felt good to get out and exercise my shutter finger.
I just wandered around the garden looking at the flowers, watching the bees go from blossom to blossom pollinating. Very casual. Very relaxed. Very enjoyable. Lost in the moment. I photographed whatever caught my fancy. No pressure to come home with good photos. No pressure to come home with anything. No complicated setups. No tripod. No stress. I was thoroughly enjoying the experience. The overcast sky was perfect for flower photography. The experience was perfect to lift my mood.
In this little foray I never even brought the EVF to my eye. As I said. Very casual. Almost 'snapshot' casual. With the exception of the Black-eyed Susans, I could have shot all of these photos using the little Ricoh GRIIIx. In fact, thinking about it, I could have photographed the Black-eyed Susans as well but would have stepped back a few steps, then cropped the file to get the slight telephoto effect.
Serendipity. One of my favorite words. This was a good example of a pleasant and unexpected find. Take your camera! You never know.

Hi Dennis. What made you buy a Fuji xe5? Is the xt5 too big for casual photography.

John, greetings or should I say bonjour or even bonsoir? (I took French in high school and college. Lol.). First, I needed a backup camera with interchangeable lenses for my X-T5. I knew I was going to sell all of my full frame Nikon gear as my Fujifilm kit had become my primary system for day to day photography. That would create the need for a second Fujifilm camera with similar capabilities as the T5. Secondly, I wanted a smaller camera, the same size of my X100VI, with which I could also use as a small walk around kit using prime lenses instead of the zooms I use on my X-T5. Those were the two primary reasons I bought the X-E5. No complaints about the E5, by the way. I hope this answers your question. ~Dennis
