Twenty-eight cents in 1968 is about $2.86 in today's currency according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. As I write this, gsoline in the area in which I live is about $3.19/gallon (UPDATE: As of March 10, 2026 it is $3.39/gallon!) so does seem too far off. It was $2.49 just a few weeks ago.

| I stayed in room 11. Very nice stay. Not fancy, but cozy. Very nostalgic. Yes, there still are places like this in business. Thankfully so. (click to enlarge) |
This old service station is located along historic Route 66 in Cuba, Missouri. The automobile, the best I can determine, is a 1950 Chevrolet Styline Deluxe 4-door sedan.
Next time take a chance and stay at one of these older, non-chain motels that are off the beaten path. If you choose right, you'll create a nice experience and memory.
Thanks for looking. Enjoy!

Ha Dennis, I do remember. I was very young, but my dad vowed we wouldn't be able to take any long driving vacations (parents were teachers with summers off and my dad loved to camp) once gas got to $0.30 a gallon. Fortunately he changed his mind. - Jim
ReplyDeleteJim, I find it amusing how our perspectives change. When I was young, $20 was a LOT of money! Now, people treat it like its a dollar. I'm still trying to adapt to that. ~Dennis
