Over the past several weeks, I’ve wandered out several times to look for interesting photographic compositions. When I include an image or two with a blog post, I try to find ones that are best representative of a particular outing. However, that leaves other images from my wanderings unseen. I'll call them "outtakes," so to speak. Here are a few from some recent outings for your viewing pleasure. Nothing spectacular but nonetheless interesting in some ways—at least to me.

I'll post a few more "outtakes" in the near future.

Hi Dennis, interesting set of images. Illustrative images, outtakes, and I've seen you mention it before, and meant to ask, what constitutes "portfolio worthy" images to you? Are those you print and hang on a wall, put on your main website? Thanks, Jim
ReplyDeleteJim, thanks for your comment and question. I’m not sure I have an answer for you. I think the best I can do is tell you “I’ll know it when I see it.” I think any portfolio-worthy images have to really grab my attention and other viewers’ attention and evoke a strong emotion as well. The problem is that everyone likes different things and what might grab my attention might not grab yours. An example would be a stunning landscape image with gorgeous color and unbelievable dynamic range. You’ve seen what I’m trying to describe—a photo that looks so perfect but didn’t even remotely look like that when made. All done in editing. I really have come to dislike those but others think they are terrific. Then you have to consider various genres of photography, the human element, etc. So, portfolio-worthy would be highly subjective, in my opinion. ~Dennis
DeleteHi, Dennis. I'm a Virginia native transplanted to Colorado. I still have great affinity for the Virginia countryside and have travelled a lot of its back roads. Where is this country store located? Thanks, Richard
ReplyDeleteRichard, thanks for writing. The old store is located on Buckhorn Road in Suffolk. It is adjacent to the CSX Railroad tracks. Funny thing. I’m a Pennsylvania native transplanted to Virginia but who intended to live in Colorado. Never made it. Met a girl, got married, started a career and my wife of now 48+ years nixed moving to Colorado! Such is life! ~Dennis
DeleteDennis, you and I corresponded a couple of years ago. I think at that time you told me that you once interviewed for a position in a police department in Fort Collins, Colorado, or its surrounding county. I've lived in Fort Collins for almost ten years now. I hope to get back to Virginia in the spring and one of the things I will do is visit some good friends in Williamsburg, which is in your neck of the woods. Maybe I'll bump into you because my MO is always to wander, too.
DeleteI remember us corresponding. Email me in the spring and let me know when you plan on arriving in Williamsburg and we’ll see if we can arrange to meet up and have lunch or such while you are here. My email address can be found in my website. Thank you for the offer. ~Dennis
