Monochrome Monday; Gathering Storm

Wetlands in a gathering storm.  Poquoson (Bull Island), Virginia (click to enlarge)

This wetland area called Messick Point is in a small town located at the southern end of the Chesapeake Bay and is one of my favorite haunts.  I've photographed here countless times, mainly deadrise oyster and crab boats along with a small business that makes crab pots.

During this visit I remember specifically intending to photograph in black and white.  The gathering storm was a nice bonus.

There used to be numerous half submerged derelict boats scattered throughout the wetlands, mostly destroyed by strong coastal storms and passing hurricanes.  They made wonderful photographic subjects.  Unfortunately, they have all been cleared out, much to my dismay.  But I still visit as often as I can and look for new ways to capture this little bit of photographic paradise.

Thanks for looking. Enjoy!

  1. Awesome monochrome landscape. Dramatic sky and great luminance from the water. Has it all.
