Yesterday morning was such a gorgeous start to the week with temperatures in the 60s F (16-20 C), very low humidity, a slight breeze from the north and a blue sky. I thought it was a perfect morning to take a short (2-block), photo walk in the downtown area in my very small hometown.
Since I've traveled the two blocks a few times previously, I thought I would switch my 'vision' and try (and mostly fail) to emulate the work of William Eggleston. If you aren't familiar with Eggleston, look at a few YouTube videos about him and his work and you'll either be fascinated with him and the photographs he makes or say, "I don't get it? These photographs are of nothing." That's how polarizing his photography can be.
Eggleston's work has been described as mundane, photography of the ordinary, unusual, random snapshots, documenting the ragged edge of the streets, etc. I will agree it is unusual but Stephen Shore, Gary Winogrand and others photograph variations of similar subjects.

Interesting viewing. The "Go Away" image makes me curious about the residents of that particular house.
ReplyDeleteIf presented in grayscale, a couple of these images would have a documentary quality like Walker Evans and W. Eugene Smith.
I like them.
Thank you for your comment and compliment. I appreciate both. I think the flag tells the story. However, there has been no controversy, demonstrations, attacks or any ongoing issues in our area to the best of my knowledge. I took it as either the occupants just generally want to be left alone or as a pre-emotive measure.
