A Quick Update On The Issue Of My X-T5 "Green Screen" Lock Up

This is basically what my LCD showed when my X-T5 locked up both times. (click to enlarge)

Back on April 4, 2023, I posted a three month update about my thoughts and use of my Fujifilm X-T5.  You can see that post here.  One of the important points I had mentioned was that my X-T5 completely locked up and the LCD showed a green screen full of what looked like rolling static.  Only by removing the battery and reinserting it did the camera return to normal.

About a week later, it happened once again.  At that point, I changed memory cards and I have not experienced the lockup since.  The memory cards I was using were Lexar 128gb 1667X UHS II SDXC cards.  I replaced them with 128gb Angelbird AV Pro V90 UHS II SDXC cards and have not experienced the lockup since.  The Angelbird cards write at 300mb/second so they are fast enough for what I photograph.

During my research on this issue, I found a couple of others who used these exact same Lexar cards and had lockup issues with their Fujifilm cameras.  All of this is anecdotal as of now as we have no actual controlled studies of the issue but I have read several times that Lexar SDXC cards don't play well with Fujifilm cameras.  I don't know that is true, but my camera locked up twice while using them and has not locked up since changing to other cards.

That said, I'm going to permanently discontinue use of the Lexar cards in both my X-T5 and X-H2S.  If I have another lockup or, conversely, don't have any future lockups, I'll post that information as an update for your information and knowledge.

  1. Well, the same thing used to happen to me with Sandisk cards... Personally, I think it was fixed in some firmware update - since version 1.04, this problem has not happened to me. So, who knows... :-)

    1. Ondřej, I’ve never had a problem with San Disk, Lexar or any other card in the past. You may be correct. It may have been a firmware issue. Thanks for your comment.
