After a good night's sleep and early rise in the El Rancho Hotel, we looked for and found a really small but excellent diner just down Historic Route 66 from the hotel. We ate a really good breakfast at Sandra's Café. It is one of those tiny places with a lot of character and good food. If I'm in the area in the future, I'm sure I'll stop there again.
Heading west we drove to Holbrook, Arizona. Holbrook is the home of the Wigwam Motel among other things. The Wigwam is one of those unique places where you can stay overnight in a teepee with a classic car parked outside. I met a family from northern Alabama traveling in a rented RV and we had a nice conversation about renting versus buying an RV. Nice people. Since I had been to the Wigwam twice before, I made just a few images and we then were back in the car traveling west.

Since I had visited this corner three times in the past, I didn't plan on making any images. However, I did make this quick phone camera image to illustrate what is there. (click to enlarge) |
Our next stop was Winslow, Arizona. Well, guess what you do there? You guessed it. You stand on the corner and wait for a girl look at you while driving a flatbed ford truck. If you don't know what I'm talking about, the Eagles song "Take it Easy" has the singer "Standing on the corner in Winslow, Arizona, such a fine sight to see. A girl, my Lord, in a flat bed ford, slowing down to take a look at me."
Winslow is really capitalizing on that song and have the corner all fixed up with a red flatbed Ford truck, a wall mural painted with a girl driving the red truck, a guitarist statue awaiting for you to stand next to and have your photo taken as well as lots of touristy shops. Everyone, it seems, just has to do it. It's fun.
We ended our day in Flagstaff. Interestingly enough, the hotel my companion booked is the same building in which I stayed my previous two visits but with a different corporate name.
After grabbing a quick bite to eat, we all were just tired and hung out in our rooms One of the guys went to sleep at about 6:30 and slept over 12 hours, while the other read for a time. As for me, I worked on blog posts and importing and editing images, then off to bed early for me as well.
Thanks for looking. Enjoy!

Great to see the Wigwam is still there. I remember our stay there well. Earlier in the day we stopped in Seligman, visited Delgadillo's barber shop and the Snow Cap Drive In. I still have the souvenir coffee mug I purchased there. All good memories.
