Do You Know Of Any Memory Card Failures In A Nikon Z6 Or Z7?

Now that Nikon's mirrorless cameras, the Z6 and Z7 have been out for about a year, are you aware of any confirmed or documented XQD card failures in either of these camera models?

So much hubbub was made about the cameras having only one card slot and that being a death knell for the cameras as well as making the cameras totally unacceptable to any serious photographer, I've been wondering if anyone knows of any confirmed or documented card failures over the past year?

There may be reports out there somewhere but I've not been able to locate any while searching the Internet.  Nor have I seen any videos on You Tube of an XQD card failure in a Nikon mirrorless camera.  I have seen reports of the spring clip mechanism that holds the card in the camera failing causing the card to not remain seated but that is something entirely different.

I've made about 5000 exposures since I purchased my Z7 in early summer and I've not spent a single minute worrying about a card failure.  I'd like to know if this really is a big deal or is an overblown issue.

If you know of any documented or confirmed XQD card failures while in use in a Nikon Z6 or Z7 please leave a comment and let me know.

  1. Dennis, just curious I shoot the z6 with most of the new S lenses including the wonderful 24-70 f2.8 lens. I love the z6. I also shoot Fuji and will continue to use that camera for my travel for a lot of reasons, but the Nikon is my go to camera. I was wondering what you think of the Z 7?

    1. Eric, thank you for your comment. There is no reason to write about the user experience as the two cameras, Z6 and Z7, are identical. Even though I know that I don’t need 47mp, there is no way to describe the feeling when I zoom in on an image to 100% and see that clear, crisp, luscious detail that I can’t get with a sensor that has fewer pixels. There is just sometime inordinately satisfying to be able to move around an image and see the tiny details the camera has captured. That about sums it up!
