Fujifilm X-T3 In-Camera Panorama; Is There An Issue With This Feature?

This is an in-camera panorama shot with my new Fujifilm X-T3.  The issues are obvious (click to enlarge)
While at the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge a couple of weekends ago, I tried out some in-camera panoramic images on the X-T3.  As you can see from the above image, my attempts were failures.  I don't yet know why.

I had the camera and lens mounted on a heavy duty tripod with a gimbal head.  The camera was in the vertical position for a horizontal panorama.  The camera's panoramic settings were set for such.  The tripod was leveled (looking at its bubble level) and the camera was leveled as well (looking at the leveling function in the EVF.  The lens' image stabilization was turned off.  I manually focused the lens, manually adjusted the exposure and made a couple of practice sweeps (left to right) to gauge the starting and finishing point.  I switched the camera' drive ring to panorama and attempted to make the composite image.

The first several times I tried, the process failed.  Messages appeared in the EVF that I wasn't panning quickly enough.  Other times, no indication, the camera just quit part way through the sweep.  I checked the in-camera settings to ensure that I had them set correctly.  I did.

After about 4 or 5 tries, I made this and one in-camera image.  I didn't try any others since viewing the two in the EVF showed something was amiss.

I don't know if this is the result of something I did or didn't do or if there is an issue with the feature in my X-T3.  I used this feature many times with my X-T2 and never had an issue.   The only difference was that I used the X-T2 handheld and this was on a tripod.  Maybe I should have tried making one handheld?

I just wanted to bring this to your attention so you are aware.  If you have had success or issues, please leave a comment so others can benefit.  In the mean time, I'm going to try to figure our what went wrong.  My gut tells me its "operator error" but I have not yet figured out what error I might have made.

  1. Denis,
J'ai eu le même type de problème avec mon XT3. Depuis je n'ai pas réessayé. J'ai employé la même méthode que vous.
    Très cordialement.

      Denis,
I had the same kind of problem with my XT3. Since then I have not tried again. I used the same method as you.
      Very cordially.
      Didier

As you can read,he had the same issue as did I, so maybe there is a problem with our cameras or the firmware itself.

    1. French to English Translation: I have a similar problem, and that's why I come to this blog. I managed a panorama but it was tedious (several tests).
After the test, nothing goes well. I have to turn off and turn on the camera to view the photos!
Now, it's even worse, the failures follow one another. I can take pictures in single or cascade, but I can not access the "panorama" mode and "video" mode !!
I will have to return the device.

Mike, thank you for your comment. It sounds as though your camera may have problems and, if under warranty, have it checked by Fujifilm before the warranty expires. The other alternative is to combine the individual image files in your editing software like Lightroom or Photoshop or another specialized program.
