At the last minute, I canceled my annual wildlife photography trip to the Eastern Shore of Virginia where I was supposed to join my friends. I've been fighting a rather serious case of bronchitis and I thought for sure I would have been over it by last Friday, but it has persisted. I am still dealing with it even today. I thought it not wise to make the journey, spend the weekend outside in the cold, wind and occasional rain that was predicted, and risk my health. Thirty years ago, I would have thrown caution to the wind and made the trip without much thought. But in my mid-60s, I now favor caution and good sense over a photographic opportunity of which I can take advantage at another time.
My plan now is to make a solo overnight trip to the Eastern Shore during the week (instead of a weekend) when I'm sure I'll pretty much have the wildlife refuge to myself. I hope to go either later this month or in early January.
I apologize if you came back to read the results of my "shootout" between the Olympus E-M1 Mark II equipped with the 300mm f/ PRO lens versus the Fujifilm X-T3 equipped with the 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 lens. If you practice a little patience, I hope to still make that comparison and write about it after I do make it to Chincoteague.

Bronchitis sucks and there's no shortcut to getting better. Glad you stayed home and hope you feel better soon.

DeleteI’m hoping to get out for a day or two in January to put the two camera/lens combinations to a good test, but with the government shutdown, I may not have access to some of my favorite wildlife refuges. We’ll see.
