Start of New Year; Three Things To Check

It is the last day of 2016.  If you have not already done so and this post is relevant to you, go ahead and do these things now.  Don't put it off and forget.  What are the three things?

First, check to see if the clock in your digital camera(s) is/are correctly set.  Digital clocks in cameras, in my experience, are notoriously inaccurate for what a digital clock should be.  I check mine periodically and find that most of the time, it not showing the correct time.

Second, if you live in an area which adheres to Daylight Savings Time, that time ended on November 7th.  If you didn't reset your camera's clock for DST over the summer or did set it and then didn't reset it on November the 7th, you might want to go back into your editing software and adjust the metadata for the correct time you made those images.  In Lightroom, you can do that under the Metadata drop down menu.  Very easy to do.

Third, if you attach copyright information into your images' metadata upon import and haven't already done so, you need to create a ©2017 version and set your import dialog to include it instead of the current 2016 date.

Just three things that can keep you up to date and keep you images straight for reference and legal reasons.

Happy 2017!

Thanks for looking. Enjoy!

  1. Gracias for the reminders, Dennis. I'd add to disable the camera's internal GPS unless you enjoy recharging your batteries. :-(

    1. —If you are fortunate enough to have GPS built in. None of my cameras have. You would think by now that they would.
