How Weatherproof Is Your Olympus E-M1?; Read What Olympus Has To Say About It

This post is just a short "heads up" to those of you who have and use Olympus E-M1s and, knowing they are "weatherproof," subject them to bad weather conditions.  Olympus has published a PDF document where they talk a bit about what "weatherproof" is, show you how to ensure the integrity of your camera's weatherproof features and give examples of conditions under which you shouldn't be subjecting your E-M1.  I just wanted to pass it along to my fellow E-M1 users.

 You can find the document here.  I suggest you take a look at what Olympus has to say.  It may save your camera from an out of warranty repair.

    I must admit that I wasn't surprised by any of what was written in this document. It basically says "hey, use some common sense, OK?" :D

    Olympus has never claimed they are "weatherproof," only "splash-proof."

      Ranger, if you read the document, you´ll find that Olympus uses the term "weatherproof" regularly.

    I was surprised the document says not to use a flash because they aren't weather proof whereas the included FL‑LM2 flash is in fact splash and dustproof, so slight mistake there.

    It seems about the same as with the E-1 and E-5 I also have. I've used the E-1 and 14-54mm f/2.8-3.5 and 50-200mm f/2.8-3.5 through three hurricanes in 2004 and didn't have a problem--and still don't.

    I've heard about some people accidentally immersing the E-1, E-3, or E-5 momentarily, and they were fine being towel dried.
